Why Genderfluid tho ? I really need a lesson on that. I really dont understand it. How can some one “just” feel like another Gender ? Isnt the Definition of Gender purely Biological(i know you will disagree). There is no Psychological Gender, there is only the biological one and well i just dont how you can argue against nature there. (no front, i just dont understand it)

Just to explain, for anyone that may be interested on this in the future, sex is what we are born with (male or female) gender is a social construct and is more linked to your self-identity.
From what I understand, a transgender is someone who has genderdisphoria caused by a dissonance in what they perceive themselves to be and their sex assigned at birth.
Someone who is gender fluid is able to “flow” between genders, sometimes aligning themselves as male, other times as female or as non-binary, you can think of it as bissexualism (attraction for both sexes) but for gender (the social/identity thing).

I’m not a specialist and this is just what I know from talking with the few lgtb people I know. So take my words with a grain of salt and research it yourself if you’re interested, I don’t care enough to look deeper into it.

Gender is a social construct. You are thinking of sex, which is more closely tied to biology. Some research beyond dumbed down middleschool biology is enough to prove this.

Biology is different to perception by others, social expectations, and personal image of self. Even biology isn’t exclusively male or female. There are intersex people, but also there are women with a lot of body hair, men who aren’t able to gain large muscle mass, women without boobs, men with boobs… It’s all much more complex than penis/vagina, even if that is still how 99% of people experience gender & biology. They’ve always existed too. Tom boys, artists, eccentrics… Gender fluidity has been around forever, I think we’ve just been made more aware of it due to identity politics and social media in recent years. It’s also only around 1-2% of populations. I personally feel happy for people being able to express themselves. It doesn’t harm me, and there are more sinister issues and people out there!

No sex is purely biological, gender is psychological. The two terms are often confused, but can anybody deny that different genders process emotions and psychology differently.

            Thanks for Asking

The definition of gender is actually psychological. Gender describes how someone feels and what they feel like. Ie. A man, a woman, neither, both, or whatever. Point is… gender is actually a psychological/sociological term. Not (really) biological although biology does probably still play a bit of a role in who is and is not transgender.

What you are likely thinking of is Sex. Sex is determined by biology, but even then it’s not a clean binary as in people are either male or female. Intersex people do exist and they are neither strictly male nor strictly female. These are people who may have not have reproductive organs that don’t match exactly with male or female. Like for instance, there are intersex people who look exactly like a woman, developed exactly as a woman is supposed to, but actually have XY chromosomes. Or there are intersex people who look like a male and have male sexual organs, but also have a uterus and fallopian tubes.

So given how biological sex isn’t exactly a binary, it would reason that gender might not be a binary as well, hence gender fluid or non-binary people who identify with both genders or identify with neither gender. And it’s OK if you don’t quite understand how someone could feel this way. It’s something that is hard to erap your hesd around if you haven’t lived it yourself.

All in all… gender and sexuality are a lot more complicated than many people intially realize and that’s what causes a lot of misunderstandings about it. Glad you are asking questions and open to answers though. That’s always a good first step!

What you refer to as biological gender is a popular oversimplification. The consensus of modern biology is that multiple factors have to be considered to determine the gender of any given being, as it is a social construct, rather than a strictly biological one. Those factors are the sexual organs, chromosomes, hormones et cetera. While most men have a penis, a scrotum, high levels of testosterone and XY chromosomes, not all do. Same with women, on average women have a vulva, breasts, higher levels of estrogen, and XX chromosomes, not all do. Some people are missing certain parts of their reproductive organs or lack them entirely, while being hormonally aligned with their chromosomes. Some people have XXY chromosomes and other varieties. Some women have higher levels of testosterone than most men.

All in all “biological gender“ is not as clear cut as most are lead to believe. So the argument of “can’t refute nature” doesn’t work, since nature and reality don’t agree with “there are only two genders”.

As for gender identity: this is largely influenced by our established gender norms and a mostly patriarchal worldview (an entirely matriarchal worldview would likely result in the same though). Many trans people were excluded from the experiences of the opposite gender, which can lead to them seeing transitioning as the only logical way of living out their identity. It is mostly a question of which gender role a person prefers, rather than thinking, I want a different reproductive organ. This leads back to the common misconception, that women were gatherers, and that men were hunters. This wasn’t the case, gathering was the primary method of acquiring food and hunting was done by both female and male humans equally, as our hunting strategies relied on endurance rather than strength, which women are equally excellent at. The modern difference in strength has also developed only in the more recent history of humanity, as a result of gender norms, though men always were a bit stronger in certain aspects.

So what about gender fluidity? Well a person who is gender fluid likely appreciates aspects of both societal norms, and likes to adhere to one, the other or neither over a certain duration.

Lastly, gender roles in other animals are extremely varied. If gender roles as we know them were “the law of nature” than this variety wouldn’t exist, but it does, so they aren’t.

Another person’s identity does not affect you, no one wants to change you. Be however you want to be. Just know that biological gender is more complex than just male and female, and that gender identity is based on how we experience the world around us with our gender identity, and how the world treats us with it.

If you need any more information on this, literally just look it up on Wikipedia, or better yet read a modern biology/sociology book that aligns with the current scientific consensus.

For clarity I am a neuroscientist and clinical therapist, with an 18 year career. In that time I have worked with a number of transgender people. So, to clear up a number of common misconceptions. Firstly the term ‘sex’ refers to the chromosomal combinations and their resultant biological development including, but not limited to, hormones and genitalia. XX for female, XY for male and a variety of combinations for intersex people.
Secondly, Gender IS NOT a ‘social construct’ nor is it a ‘choice’. This is a recent political rhetoric (last 10 years or so) that is not based in scientific studies of sexuality and gender identity, which date back to 1919.
Although the roles that each ‘sex’ has in society is a social construct.
Gender Identity (a term first used by Robert Stoller in 1964) is hard wired into the stria terminalis and anterior hypothalamus regions of the brain and refers to how a person perceives themselves. Transgender and gender fluidity are real observed phenomena where a person’s perception of their ‘gender’ differs from their biological ‘sex’

And to think I came here to jerk…

The fields of psychology and neuroscience (especially) are mired in foundational conceptual issues which rarely if ever get discussed in the fields themselves, especially not in university courses. That leaves them particularly vulnerable to political influence. Questions related to politically sensitive issues are not answered through sober science. Transgenderism and other non-standard sexual identities is a prime example. Say the wrong thing and you instantly lose your funding, any possibility of tenure, or even your position and career. Consequently, any supposed “consensus” on that issue is determined by political power, not cold, unbiased empirical concordance.

As it happens, the few instances of actual attempts at evidence-based work related to these subjects typically point away from the politically correct consensus. An example is the Finnish research on gender dysphoria which found that patients symptoms persist or worsen after “transition”.

Hi I am the psychologist from the previous post
“Say the wrong thing and you instantly lose your funding, any possibility of tenure, or even your position and career” – no this does not happen, this is just another political rhetoric. Academics don’t make political statements, they discuss their research and don’t assume anything, even their own findings, are absolute. The terminology that academics use is generated from their own research and not derived from ‘political correctness’.

There are several red flags in your post that indicate a biased political rhetoric.
            1. Use of the term ‘political correctness’
            2. trying to claim that the ‘consensus’ is wrong based on an option derived from unspecified research, this in itself is a breach of academic integrity, the reason citations are included is so people can go to the source and make their own determinations, not take someone else’s word for it.
            3. Putting inverted commers around the word transition.
In science there is no such thing as consensus there is only ‘our current level of understanding.

I don’t appreciate you misrepresenting my post to justify your own political rhetoric.
The point I was making in that “cold, unbiased empirical concordance”, as you put it, is not “
determined by political power” as you claim.
The real world is the real world, regardless of your personal beliefs or whatever makes you uncomfortable and science seeks to understand that. Political rhetoric is a story used to justify your psychological pathologies.

I swear I just cum here to destress release some endorphins, not get into academic lectures or political debates..
